Lady Golden Tigers walk off Thorobredettes
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — A six-run sixth inning clinched a series win for Tuskegee University over Kentucky State, winning 8-0 in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup to close the regular season Sunday afternoon.
Tuskegee (20-29, 18-6 SIAC) pounded out 16 hits in the victory on Sunday, including a perfect day for Sharde Thomas at the plate. The freshman finished the day 4-for-4 with her second homerun of the season, raising her average to .504 to close out the regular season.
Jasmine Howard had her best day at the plate this season, going 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs scored. Jamaica Williams, Karisa Foye and Cari Driver each picked up a pair of hits – with Driver clinch the game with a two-run walkoff double.
Foye (4-5) won her second game of the weekend over Kentucky State with a complete game effort. She allowed just runs, while striking out three in the finale.
After both teams battled to a scoreless tie through four innings, Tuskegee broke through in the fifth when Howard led off the inning with a single and scored when Thomas hit a two-run homerun to center.
The Lady Golden Tigers wasted little time in ending the game the next inning when they scored six runs off of seven hits, including an RBI doubles from Howard and Driver.
Tuskegee will be off until the opening round of the SIAC Softball Championships on Thursday at the Lovejoy Regional Complex in Hampton (Ga.), where they will be the top seed from the West Division.
