Warhawks hang tight at #2 in NAIA softball poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) — The Auburn-Montgomery softball team remained at the No. 2 spot in the sixth regular-season NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office released Tuesday afternoon.
Oklahoma City (52-1) collected all 19 first-place votes for the first time this season, and accumulated a total of 529 points in the poll. St. Gregory’s (35-5) remained number three with 495 points. Oklahoma City leads all active schools with 118-straight rankings, and St. Gregory’s has acquired 45.
The Warhawks held the second place ranking with a total of 509 points. The team has posted a 44-5 (16-4 SSAC) record, and are currently tied for first in the Southern States Athletic Conference. AUM has been ranked in 47-straight polls, while William Carey has been represented in 81-consecutive rankings.
No. 8 William Carey (32-13, 412 points) remained in the same spot as the previous week, and is tied with AUM for the top spot in the conference. No. 12 Martin Methodist (43-12, 342 points) moved up one spot from the previous poll, and was the only other SSAC team to be named in the top 25. Brenau continued to be in the receiving votes category just outside of the top 25 with 59 points.
The Warhawks will return to action on Thursday, April 28, where the team will match up against the winner of the No. 7 seed and No. 10 seed game in the SSAC Tournament. AUM is set to start at 6 p.m.
