Hundreds of 4th graders from across Pike County spent the day learning all about the environment.

The hands-on experience was all part of the 2016 Groundwater Festival. It teaches students about water conservation and environmental awareness. The festival is held each year on Troy University’s campus with several activities including creating an edible aquifer. Instructors say the students are at the perfect age to learn how to take care of their environment.
“They’re still young enough at this age that we can teach them the right things to do, to take care of their natural resources, ” says Sharon Harris of Banks School.
This year’s Groundwater festival was made possible with the help of several organizations and businesses in Troy and Brundidge.
