Two correctional facilities remain on lockdown as inmates refuse to go to their assigned jobs. We got a call from an inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility.

The inmate, who did not want to be identified, sent pictures of inmates crowding around trying to get sack lunches.
He also said they ran out of food.

Here are pictures that were sent to WHNT in Huntsville of some photos of the food they are receiving at the Elmore facility. Two sandwiches, a small carton of milk, and an orange.

Other food pictures sent to WHNT from the Holman facility showed less than that.

The inmate we talked to at Elmore says the conditions have gotten bad, including a raw sewage leak and water not draining properly in the shower.

“There are windows here exposed to the elements because the glass has been broken for months. The heat has to be pumped non stop in the winter time just to keep it warm in here… I watched an inmate get stabbed down brutally while he is begging for an officer to help. And there is no officer to be found because they are shorthanded… We are requesting our basic human rights to be met. I’m not sleeping in a tent out in the woods or by  a window or a toilet that has raw sewage in it,” said the inmate.

The Department of Corrections issued this statement in response:

“Correctional staff are responding by delivering the basic services to all inmates at both facilities.  The facilities are secure, inmates are receiving their daily meals, and their healthcare needs are being met.”
