AUM’s Calloway tosses 3 hit shutout in Warhawks’ win over Martin Methodist
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) — Senior Chance Calloway scattered three hits in complete-game shutout and lifted the No. 7 Auburn Montgomery baseball team past Martin Methodist, 11-0, in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday at Paterson Field.
NOTES
• With the win, the Warhawks improved to 40-14 on the season.
• Martin Methodist fell to 21-24 overall.
• The 40-win season marked the second in as many seasons under the direction of head coach Marty Lovrich.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Calloway needed just 89 pitches to toss his first career shutout. He struck out four and walked just one to improve to 3-2 on the season.
• Kaleb Harris had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.
• Mac Seibert launched his team-leading fifth home run of the season, drove in three, walked and scored twice.
• John-Mark Cosby finished 2-for-3, with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
• Dalton Kelley had a pair of hits, including his team-best 12th double of the year. He drove in a run and scored once.
• Brandon Davis had two hits and scored a run.
• Michael Tedford walked twice, scored a run and tallied a RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI double by Harris, which scored Kelley.
• AUM blew the game open with five runs in the third inning. Cosby started the outburst with a RBI double, plating Brandon Pooler, before Karris singled in Cosby. Seibert followed with a three-run homer, scoring Harris and Blake Grill, to up the advantage to 6-0.
• The Warhawks added two more runs in the fourth inning, when Cosby drove in Tedford, and Harris plated Pooler.
• The Warhawks loaded the bases on a walk to Seibert and singles by Davis and Cody Rush, before Tedford collected a RBI with a walk. Pooler followed by scoring Davis on a double play, while Kelley’s double scored Rush with the game’s final run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Each team turned a double play and stranded six runners on base.
• AUM committed three errors in the contest, while the RedHawks had one miscue.
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., when they take on No. 6 seed Bethel.
