One Dead, One Arrested in West Vandiver Blvd. Shooting

The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in Thursday, May 5, shooting death of 20-year-old Steven Merriweather of Montgomery.

MPD detectives charged, Shaundarius Brown, 18 of Montgomery, with one count of capital murder. Brown turned himself in later that afternoon to MPD detectives. Brown was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a no bond.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 100 block of Vandiver Boulevard at about 1:30 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. There, they located Merriweather who was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

MPD’s initial investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute. Further investigation identified Shaundarius Brown as a suspect.
