SAL PARKVANDALS PIC 2Vandals broke in to and stole property from Beeland Park in Greenville in early April. After a month-long investigation, four juveniles between the ages of 13 and 14 and two adults are being charged with the crimes.

Police say hammers and other instruments were used to break into storage sheds, the concession stand and the announcer’s booth at the park. Police reports say around $200 of merchandise in the form of candy bars and drinks was stolen. Some microphones and audio equipment was also taken or damaged. The group did at least $1,000 worth of damage to the park. Chief Investigator Justin Lovvorn says it was a prank gone incredibly wrong.

“What it boils down to is, basically just some kids with nothing better to do that day but to go get into something,” he says. “And this is what happens. You know, the results and the punishment they could receive and the type of crime they’re charged with is a lot more severe than what they had in their head that day that they were doing.”

BEELAND PICThe individuals were each charged with two counts of theft third and one count of burglary fourth. The park has added extra security since the incident. Even though police do not think this type of crime will happen again at the park, they have increase patrols in the area.
