Tuskegee’s Finch lone SIAC player for D2 honors
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) — The 2016 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Softball All-South Region Team was announced on Monday, headlined by Player of the Year Brooklynn Clark from North Alabama and Valdosta State’s Caitlyn Calhoun who is the region’s Pitcher of the Year.
The Gulf South Conference placed 22 players on the two teams, while the Sunshine State Conference had five representatives and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had one selection.
Tuskegee’s Kaylin Finch was the lone SIAC representative on the team, earning Second Team honors as the Utility-Pitcher. The freshman, the SIAC Player of the Year, finished the season as the second-leading hitter for the Lady Golden Tigers at .378 with 62 hits. She was also second on the team in home runs with nine and tied for the team lead in RBI with 40. The freshman finished the season slugging .616 and recording an on-base percentage of .431.
On the mound, Finch finished the year with a team-high 11 victories while recording a 3.47 earned run average. She logged a team-high 143.1 innings, striking out 75. The opposition hit just .272 off of Finch this season, and the freshman recorded a perfect game in early March against Clark Atlanta at the SIAC Crossover.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
