The process of adding dozens of families to the public water supply in Wilcox County — is moving in the wrong direction according to one county leader.

Chairman John Moton says the county commission met Monday night and now the process has taken a step backwards.

Moton says the year-long effort to create a water authority has stalled again putting the whole process — back in limbo.

“Last May we created the water authority and its been a challenge trying to get through the complete process,” said Moton. “One of the board members that had been approved in a previous meeting have withdrawn his name from consideration because of the gridlock on this commission.”

Moton says a water authority could get federal money for a water system expansion and upgrade — that is simply NOT available for a county run system.
