The battle over Montgomery’s speed cameras in unmanned police cars continues.
It started with the governor signing off on legislation repealing the city’s ability to use them. Then the city came back saying they would still be in use, because they have a contract with the company for the next three years.
Senator Dick Brewbaker says every lawmaker in the Montgomery delegation, republican and democratic, voted to get rid of the cameras. He says the fact that this is one thing they could all agree on- is proof the automated speed enforcement needs to go.
“It shows a gigantic contempt for the public to say we are going to attempt to keep using these camera cars anyway when A we have no legal authority to do it and B I know the people don’t like these things but I just don’t care and that’s the city’s attitude,” he said.
As far as whether or not Senator Brewbaker will pursue anything further, he says attorneys want to see a Brewbaker versus the City of Montgomery lawsuit, but he hasn’t made his mind up yet.
