MPS Virtual School Begins Accepting Applications

mps95234.jpgMontgomery Public Schools’ Virtual School Program will begin accepting applications for the 2016-17 school year on May 12 through June 2, 2016. The program, which was piloted last year, is open to all students in grades 9-12 who are on track to graduate with their cohort and have passed all coursework.

The MPS Virtual School Program utilizes a flexible learning model where students can take all the coursework that is required in a traditional classroom setting online. They receive an MPS laptop and instructions on how to navigate in an online learning environment. They also have the ability to choose from a variety of elective classes, including foreign languages.

Students are required to come to the Virtual School Center one day a week where they receive instructional support and take monitored assessments. Applicants for the program should be able to manage their time well, be organized and self-motivated, and be comfortable using technology.

Parents who are interested in learning more about the Virtual School Program are invited to attend an informational meeting on May 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the MPS Professional Services Center (PSC), located at 515 S. Union Street. There will also be a mandatory parent meeting for students who are accepted into the program on June 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the same location.

Students can complete the online application by clicking the virtual schools link on the homepage of the MPS Website at EngageEducateInspire.org. Students also have the option of completing the application online at the MPS Virtual Schools Center located at the PSC.
