Some very special student athletes took to the field of competition in Selma Friday.

Selma City and Dallas County Schools hosted their annual Special Olympics at Memorial Stadium.

More than forty special needs students competed in about a dozen track and field events.

Organizers say the event is all about the kids.

“This is where our children come together and they see their friends from other schools,” said Selma City Schools Special Education Director Angernette Carter.

“And plus, this is going to display their athletics because we have kids with special needs that do have skills and we want the public to see them.”

Organizers say they’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
