#4 seed Auburn preps to host NCAA Regional
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – The NCAA Selection committee named Auburn a No. 4 seed for the second straight year and the Tigers will host throughout their postseason run to the 2016 Women’s College World Series. The Tigers welcome Oregon State, Jacksonville State and USC Upstate to Jane B. Moore Field from May 20-22.
Auburn opens play against Jacksonville State on Friday at 6 p.m. with the game carried on ESPN3.
The Tigers finished the season defending their SEC title while also claiming an identical 49-9 record as the 2015 squad accomplished at this point in the year. Auburn defeated four-straight top 20 opponents down the stretch and also became the third repeat tournament champion in league history.
This is the 12th appearance in the NCAA tournament for Auburn and third-straight under head coach Clint Myers. Jane B. Moore Field has hosted two other NCAA Regionals with Auburn seeded No 2 in 2005 and their first ever No. 1 seed last season as the Tigers advanced to the Women’s College World Series.
“You’ve got three other deserving teams,” head coach Clint Myers said after the banquet. “You have to go out and prove yourself day in and out. They need to remember what they were able to accomplish in 36 hours. They need to have that mentality going into this regional.”
The Southeastern Conference will be sending a league-record 11 teams to the tournament for the fourth-straight year.
