Alabama Shakespeare Festival Parking Lots to be Repaved

AP_1009200898Visitors to Blount Cultural Park will notice a lot of activity around the Alabama Shakespeare Festival this week, as workmen diligently work to repair and repave parking lots.

“It’s been ten years since the parking lots and roads were last paved,” said Chief Operating Officer, Mike Vigilant. “It was really urgent that we get the lots and roads taken care of as there were areas that needed attention. This is perfect timing as we’re expecting close to 30,000 visitors this summer to see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and we really want to look our best.”

The repaving is in part made possible by local businessman and longtime ASF supporter, Charles Brassell, owner of Asphalt Contractors. Mr. Brassell has made available over 3,000 tons of asphalt at his cost to repave ASF’s roads and parking lots.

“Charles has made his living in Montgomery and continues to give back to his City.  This gift to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival is deeply appreciated and our board and staff are so grateful to Charles for his ready generosity,” said Eve Loeb, ASF’s Director of Development.

The first step in the repaving process is addressing road failures (filling pot holes, leveling uneven surfaces), followed by milling (grinding road down to uniform level) and finally laying asphalt. The work is expected to take one week, and the grounds will be mostly accessible during repaving, as the crew will address different areas each day.

Visitors are asked to pay attention to signage and security who will give them guidance on where to park throughout the week.
