Renascence Giving Former Inmates a Second Chance at Life

Overcrowded in prisons is an ongoing issue in Alabama. One non profit called Renascence is looking to do it’s part by giving former non violent inmates a second chance at life.

Renascence is a one year re entry program that provides 24 hour support to male inmates transitioning from prison to the real world. 12 men live in the facility and are responsible for the upkeep of the home. For many who leave the walls of jail or prison, it’s difficult to make the transition, especially without help. That’s why many recommit crimes, and return to the penitentiary.

“Instead of coming out of jail or prison and have nothing the reality is we give them that opportunity to get a job, save some money, get prepared, go to programming,” says Alan Smith, Executive Director or Renascence.

The non-profit receives donations in order to continue it’s service. If you would like to help go to their website: halfway-home.net
