Auburn survives Gamecocks’ softball scare 2-1

AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) — Rachael Walters come out of the bullpen with her strike out pitch in overdrive, and Carlee Wallace drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to lead Auburn to a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville State in NCAA regional play at Jane B. Moore Field on Friday.

Walters bailed Auburn out of a jam in the third, and kept going, striking out 10. She improved to 10-3.

Auburn loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh. A force out at home made it one out. Wallace, the next hitter, ended it.

The Tigers will play again in the winners’ bracket at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against USC Upstate, which beat Oregon State 5-2 in Friday’s other regional game.

Jacksonville State and Oregon State play in an elimination game at 4. The loser of the first game and the winner of the second game will play at 6:30.

Auburn improved to 50-9 record. It’s the third time in program history the Tigers have hit the 50-win mark. Jacksonville State fell to 41-16.
