AUM draws Bellevue in NAIA’s World Series opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) —- After punching its ticket to the 2016 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series with an extra-inning victory in the championship game, the No. 6 Auburn Montgomery baseball team learned its will open the tournament against No. 3 seed Bellevue on Friday, May 27 at 3 p.m. PDT.

The 60th annual event will takes place May 27-June 3 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho, for the 17th-consecutive season and 25th time overall. The World Series is a 10-team, double-elimination tournament.

The contest between the Warhawks (45-15) and the Bruins (51-10) will be the third of four on the opening day of the World Series. The winner of the game would advance to play again at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 29, while the loser would play at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 28.

AUM will be making its fourth World Series appearance and first since 2006. In those previous three showings, the Warhawks recorded an 8-6 record. Bellevue is making its 13th appearance.

The tournament will open with No. 7 seed Sterling (50-14) taking on No. 10 seed Point (34-29) at 9 a.m., before No. 8 seed Lindsey Wilson (42-23) faces No. 9 seed The Master’s (41-17) at noon. The final game of the day will pit No. 4 seed and host Lewis-Clark State (48-7) against No. 5 seed Science and Arts (48-11) at 7 p.m.

Southern States Athletic Conference foe Faulkner (49-13) earned the top seed in the tournament and will take on the winner of the contest between Lindsey Wilson and The Master’s at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The No. 2 seed is Tennessee Wesleyan (48-13). The Bulldogs will open tournament play against the winner of Sterling and Point at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Stretch Internet, the NAIA’s official video-streaming company, will be broadcasting the first 15 games of the 2016 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series. Day passes can be purchased for $9.95, while an all-World Series ticket is available for $29.95. Games played June 1-3 are going to be delivered on ESPN3.
