A university in California makes a big donation to the Southside high school football program in Dallas County.

Point Loma Nazarene University — in San Diego, California — raised $10,000 dollars to give to Southside.

The football program has fallen on tough times over the past few years due to a lack of money and support.

A group of students from the university had visited the area on a civil rights pilgrimage — saw the need — and wanted to help.

“During the Lenten season our entire school community gets together and we raise money for a project. This year it was Southside,” said PLNU student April Tyler.”

The Dallas County School District matched the donation from the university — giving the football program a total of $20,000 dollars for equipment and other improvements.
