McClelland’s Critters Owner Speaks After Complaint from PETA
A Pike County zoo owner fires back after a complaint from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The animal rights group claims McClelland’s Critters is failing to meet federal safety standards. The complaint prompted an inspection by the U.S Department of Agriculture, which led to a number of citations, including unclean drinking water for animals and broken fences. But owner, Mike McClelland says those problems have been fixed. PETA officials claims that the animals are used for entertainment and displayed for profit. McClelland says that is not true.
“This is my passion. I’m not here to make a dollar. The only reason we charge for people to come out here is so I can feed the animals and take care of them,” says McClelland.
McClelland says the facility is open for visitors, despite rumors of closing. For hours and other info at McClelland’s Critters visit their website at the following link:Â http://www.mikeszoocritters.com/
