Florida State routs Alabama State 18-6 in NCAA opener
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Dylan Busby had three hits and matched a career high with five runs batted in as Florida State rolled to a 18-6 win over Alabama State on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament’s Tallahassee Regional.
Quincy Nieporte and Taylor Walls also had three hits and two RBIs as the Seminoles (38-20) scored seven runs in the first and seventh innings. Drew Carlton (7-3) went 6 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Top-seeded Florida State will face Southern Mississippi on Saturday. No. 4 Alabama State (38-20) will take on South Alabama in an elimination game.
Alabama State pitcher Joseph Comacho, who was unbeaten in his last 36 starts (31-0), didn’t make it out of the first inning. The senior right-hander (10-1) surrendered seven runs (three earned) and five hits with two walks as the Hornets committed three errors in the inning.
Diandre Amion had a two-run homer for Alabama State during a five-run seventh.
