Biscuits Fall 4-2 to the Shuckers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com)- The Biscuits fell the the Biloxi Shuckers for a second straight night by a score of 4-2 on Monday evening at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits had Chih-Wei Hu (2-3) on the mound, who brought his 1.84 ERA into Monday night’s start, which was fourth-best in the Southern League. Unfortunately for Hu and the Biscuits though, they were matched up against Josh Hader (2-1) whose miniscule ERA of 0.88 was first in the league, and it was the left-hander who would come out on top.

The Shuckers would score first on an RBI-groundout by Nathan Orf after Brett Phillips hit a triple off the wall in deep right in the first at-bat of the game. Then a couple of innings later, Jacob Nottingham swatted an RBI-double into the right-center field gap to make it 2-0 Biloxi.

In the sixth, the Shuckers would double their lead thanks to a Kean Wong error and an RBI-single by second baseman Javier Betancourt. Hader took care of the rest, tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits and tallying eight strikeouts en route to just his second victory of the season. The southpaw’s lone mistake was serving up an RBI-single to Willy Adames in the sixth as Montgomery tried to mount a comeback.

The Biscuits would cut the deficit to two in the eighth thanks to an RBI-single by Jake Bauers, who extended his hitting streak to eight games in the losing effort. Casey Gillaspie also extended his on-base streak to a team-high 21 games on a walk in the same inning, but it was not enough on this night as Stephen Kohlscheen closed the door in the ninth for his fourth save of the season.

The Biscuits will try to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night when Hunter Wood (1-0) makes his second Double-A start against Javi Salas (3-2, 4.17) at 7:05 PM.
