Biscuits Drop Shuckers, 6-3
MONTGOMERY, Ala.(biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits won their first game of their five-game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers, taking Tuesday night’s contest, 6-3, over their South Division rivals at Riverwalk Stadium.
Hunter Wood (2-0) was making just his second start at the Double-A level after starting for the first time on June 2 in a 1-0 win at Jacksonville and the right-hander answered the bell again with a fabulous performance in front of a Biscuit home crowd. The 22-year-old went six innings, and for a second-straight start did not allow a run on just two hits in the victory. The Rogers, Arkansas native also fanned four, walking only two, and has now gone a combined eleven scoreless for the Biscuits.
Wood would get some help from the Biscuits offense that mustered more than two runs in a game for the first time all series. Tommy Coyle’s sacrifice fly got things started in the fourth, before Willy Adames’ RBIs-single doubled the Biscuit lead at 2-0. Patrick Leonard then stepped to the plate and launched his second home run of the season over the left field fence, a three-run shot to blow the game open for Montgomery, who would add another sac fly from Jake DePew in the eighth.
Biloxi would finally get on the board in the seventh on an RBI-single from Garrett Cooper, and threatened in the same inning with the bases loaded and one out against Kyle Bird, but the left-hander induced a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play to get out of it. The Shuckers would tack on two more in the ninth, but it was not enough as the Biscuits made it back to .500 with their 29th win of the season.
The team will try to make it 30 wins on the year on Wednesday night when Jake Faria (1-5) tangoes with Jorge Ortega (0-5) at 7:05 PM.
