Wetumpka Man’s Viral Video of Police Leads to his Arrest
It’s video that’s brought over 23 thousand views.
Wetumpka Police officers questioned why Keith Golden was filming them outside the police department.
According to Golden, he was just seeing what they would do.
“Some people call it a test. That’s what I prefer to call it. And we have the right to make sure they are protecting our first amendment rights,” said Golden.
After about 7 minutes of questioning, they let Golden go.
Golden says his filming of government officials is all about 3 things.
“It’s about transparency, it’s about accountability, it’s about awareness. Awareness of the right that you have to film from a public space,” said Golden.
But it was after that incident when the police came searching for him.
Golden posted his video on his company site, Bama Camera, and added the contact information of city officials.
According to the Wetumpka Police Department press release:
“Due to the intentional acts of Bama Camera and Keith Golden, the phone system of the Wetumpka Police Department was jammed to the point of crippling our communications system. Calls have been obscene, threatening and racially motivated and hindering dispatchers from answering 911 calls.”
That’s when they arrested Golden for interference with safety communications.
Golden says that wasn’t his fault.
“But if people call, I don’t control what people say. And I don’t control the amount of calls. To be honest, I didn’t think this many people would call,” said Golden.
