Haygon Meadows is a vibrant kid living in Montgomery with his family.
But he’ll be the first to tell you he’s not like other 9 year-olds.

“I’m not really the normal, typical 9 year-old. I don’t get to go to sleepovers or I really don’t get to hang out with friends. And I really have to go to the nurse a lot in class,” said Haygon.

His mother, Tonya, says it’s all because of his Type 1 diabetes.

“It’s a very volatile disease. A lot of balance. A lot of high blood pressure and a lot of low blood pressure, especially with kids. It can be very detrimental if not watched closely,” said Tonya.

Haygon would like the opportunity to get a service dog that could help keep him on track.
“It will help me a lot with lows or highs. It will alert me and this event is all about that helping me get the dog.”

The event is a raffle and cookout at American Legion in Millbrook this Saturday, June 11th.
Haygon is hard at work making flyers and getting T-Shirts ready.
He already has the support of the community as local businesses have helped to make videos for him to get the word out about the “Lassie Project.”

“To think it all started off with a yard sale, it’s crazy… And now we’re here. It’s awesome… I might be able to go to a friend’s house now with the dog and I will be able to have a lot more freedom,” said Haygon.

It’s all to bring a dog home for Haygon.
