Mike Hubbard Plans to Appeal Conviction
The former speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives says he and his family are working to come to terms with the guilty verdicts at his ethics trial.
Mike Hubbard said in a statement on Sunday, that he maintains his innocence and will be appealing.
A jury on Friday found Hubbard guilty on 12 charges that he wrongly solicited consulting contracts and investments. The convictions resulted in Hubbard’s automatic removal from office.
The Auburn Republican said it was an honor to represent his district for 18 years and said he hoped the accomplishments of the Legislature would not be overshadowed.
Hubbard said he was leaving the political arena with “my head held high.”
