What Should You Do During An Active Shooter Situation?

Local law enforcement want to make sure you’re prepared for an active shooter. It’s called the run, hide, fight method. Deputies say people across the state are unfamiliar with the tactic, but they say since the recent shootings they’re hoping to inform more people, because law enforcement says this method could potentially save your life. Lieutenant Randy Pollard teaches a ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ class for anyone interested in ways to protect themselves from a would be active shooter.
He says most people don’t think of an exit strategy while in certain settings. He even put me to the test. When it comes to the ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ method. If you’re unable to run, Lieutenant Pollard says be sure to hide, and get creative with what you have in order to barricade yourself from a would be shooter. Deputies say be sure to hide in the furthest corner away from the door, and grab the nearest object in order to defend yourself if the shooter breaks through the barricades.

“What we try to do is teach you to intelligently exit that encounter, but the start of all that is to know where you are, even in your own office, know where you are, where your exits are, how would you get to your exits,” says Lieutenant Randy Pollard of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office provides classes to anyone in the county who wants to learn more about staying informed on what to do to stay safe. To learn more about the ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ class call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office at 334-832-1339
