Biscuits 5 run barrage sinks Blue Wahoos 7-1
PENSACOLA, Fla. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits beat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, 7-1, on Tuesday night at Admiral Fetterman Field in downtown Pensacola in the five-game series finale on the Panhandle.
Taylor Guerrieri (5-4) got the start for Montgomery and delivered another terrific performance hurling five shutout innings and surrendering only three with just one walk and four strikeouts for the win. Guerrieri has now won his last three starts, and became the first Biscuits starting pitcher to reach five wins on the season.
The right-hander got plenty of help from the Biscuits offense that scored two runs in the second off Pensacola starter Nick Travieso, thanks to an RBI-single by Cade Gotta and an error by Wahoos right fielder Sebastian Elizaldale. A few innings later in the seventh, the Biscuits would explode for five runs courtesy of an RBI by Juniel Querecuto, a three-run triple by Patrick Leonard, and an RBI-single by Kean Wong to blow the game wide open. It was the fourth time all season that Montgomery had scored five or more runs in one inning.
The Biscuits would allow their run on a sacrifice fly by Elizalde in the bottom of eighth, but that was it as knuckleballer Jared Mortensen and reliever Kyle Winkler closed things out. The Biscuits are now 32-33, and will look to get back to .500 when they open up a five-game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts at Riverwalk Stadium beginning Wednesday at 7:05 PM. It will also be Military Wednesday and BBQ fest at the ballpark with Chris Kirsch (3-2) on the mound.
