The District Attorney’s Office is celebrating Father’s Day in a unique way.
It’s called “Operation Support Our Children” and District Attorney Daryl Bailey says investigators are targeting 105 men and women seriously delinquent on child support. You are looking at the top 20 offenders in the county that over the past years have accumulated a total of over one million dollars in overdue child support. DA Bailey says these people are top priority because they are all healthy, working parents who are simply choosing not to pay.
Daryl Bailey, Montgomery County District Attorney said, “it’s very frustrating for the court system because we will go out and we will catch these individuals and they will pay an amount of money and they will disappear again. Then we have to go and restart the process again. But more importantly it’s very frustrating to the custodial parents who are having to raise these children, both men and women, without the proper support that they need.”
April Leftwich, a mother of two said, “I have been coming back and forth for child support court since April. And having to take off work, I am here fighting to get support to meet financial obligations that my children have. And I am taking time off work and missing time, it’s not fair.”
If you recognize any of the people- call the DA’s office at (334) 832-2550.
Offenders can turn themselves until 5 Friday evening, DA Bailey says they will work with them to setup payment plans and get them out of jail.
So far, seven arrests have already been made.
