Kirsch sparkles in 4-2 win over Lookouts
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits got back to .500 on Wednesday night with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts at Riverwalk Stadium.
Chris Kirsch was on the mound for Montgomery, and the left-hander delivered another solid performance hurling six innings of two-run ball, allowing just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts en route to his fourth win of the season. Before giving up his first run of the game, Kirsch pitched 13.2 consecutive shutout innings for the Biscuits.
Montgomery’s offense had no problem batting around Chattanooga starter DJ Baxendale, tallying four singles in the bottom of the first, including a two-run single by Kean Wong to hand the Biscuits the early lead. Mike Marjama would add an RBI-single of his own in the third to extend that lead to three, while Casey Gillaspie contributed a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. That was all Montgomery would need on this night.
The Biscuits recorded 11 base hits through the first four innings, but would only get one more the rest of the way. The Lookouts scored a couple of runs on an error and a groundout in the sixth, but Jeff Ames pitched two shutout innings of relief and Kyle Bird induced a game-winning double play with runners on first and second and one out in the ninth to seal the win.
The Biscuits are now tied with the Lookouts for second-place in the North Division at 33-33, and will send Chih-Wei Hu (2-3) to the hill against Ryan Eades (3-2, 4.15) on Beatles Night and Thirsty Thursday at 7:05 PM at Riverwalk.
