Ocasio, Camacho named to ABCA All-Region Team

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (bamastatesports.com)  – Alabama State OF Carlos Ocasio and RHP Joseph Camacho were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association / Rawlings South Central All-Region team, announced on Wednesday.

Ocasio (5-10, 185; Jr., Palm Bay, Fla.) hit. 330 this season with 13 home runs and 60 RBI. The SWAC’s Player and Hitter of the Year while earning first-team all-conference honors, Ocasio was third in the SWAC in home runs and tied for third in RBI. He tied for the league lead in runs scored (62), was sixth in hits (61),  second in total bases (124), and ninth in both slugging percentage (.593) and stolen bases (19).

Camacho (5-9, 175; Sr., El Paso, Texas) earned Louisville Slugger All-American honors after posting a 10-1 record with a 2.35 ERA in 15 games with 13 starts and one save. Camacho threw three complete games and two shutouts in earning SWAC Pitcher of the Year honors for the third straight year as well as first-team all-conference honors in helping lead the Hornets to their first SWAC Championship in program history.

Alabama State (38-17) won the 2016 SWAC Championship for the first time in program history, doing so in historic fashion. The Hornets went undefeated in conference play (24-0) and unbeaten in the tournament, setting a school record for wins and earning the school’s first NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament berth.
