Advocates Bring Awareness to Elder Abuse

Elder Abuse is an ongoing issue across the country, and advocates in the capitol city are raising awareness, because they say it affects millions. Money is one of the biggest factors when it come to elder abuse. According to the One Place Family Justice Center, five million older Americans fall victim to elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation, But those are only reported cases.
Experts say that for every case of elder abuse or neglect reported, as many as 23 cases go unreported. One of the main reasons why the elderly refuse to report abuse is because of denial, especially if they’re being exploited by a close family member.
