Sickle Blood Drives Looks to Educate People About the Disease
Sickle Cell anemia affects over 100,000 people every year, especially Alabamians. One group is doing it’s part to educate people about the disease.
The Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery is raising awareness about the disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the disease affects 1 in every 365 African American births, and 1 in every 16,300 Hispanic births. Organizers and not only do they want you to be educated when it comes to sickle cell, but also take action, by giving blood. That’s why Life South was on hand at the Sickle cell foundation to collect blood. The Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery serves nine counties, and 500 people with sickle cell in the river region.
