Rosa Parks Museum Celebrates Juneteenth
Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum makes efforts to educate others about Juneteenth.
The historic day marked the end of slavery in America in June 1865. Saturday the museum featured performers to tell the story of Juneteenth and provided fun activities for kids. This is the first Juneteenth celebration at the Rosa Parks Museum. Speakers say it’s vital to know the history of that day and share the knowledge with others.
“If we came to understand and believe that we can speak truth to power that would be more more widespread information and making them aware of the true meaning of what Juneteenth symbolizes,” says A. Faye Boykin Calhoun.
The celebration was also part of the museum’s second family free day event.
