Both Political Parties Split as Presidential Race Heats Up
Four weeks to go until the presidential conventions begin, and both parties need to unite under one nominee.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have campaigned across the country the past few months turning out the votes. But political analyst Steve Flowers says only a few really matter.
“Only about 7 or 8 states matter, primarily Ohio and Florida, because the other 40 states are predetermined how they are going to vote whether a Republican or Democrat nominee. Under the presidential election process with the demographic changes in the country, a Democrat is favored to win no matter who the Democrat or Republican nominee is,” said Flowers.
Flowers says both the Republican and Democratic parties have been split. And both nominees have their work cut out for them.
“Even in the Democratic primary races, Bernie Sanders, a socialist, was getting about as many votes as Hillary Clinton has in the whole democratic process. She got the democratic nomination only because she out-manuevered him in the selection of delegates, so both parties come to the table with their nominees very unliked even with their own party.”
As for running mates… Alabama U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions has been an adviser to Trump since the early days of his campaign.
However, Flowers says he doesn’t think Sessions will be chosen for the ticket.
“Sessions brings nothing to the table other than he is a popular conservative, but he doesn’t need that vote. He needs to get more of a moderate to be his Republican nominee, somebody from Ohio or Florida, for example, John Kasich,” said Flowers.
