Warhawk signs free agent deal with Rays
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) — Auburn Montgomery senior first baseball Mac Seibert has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, the organization announced Monday.
The Cantonment, Fla., native, was assigned to Port Charlotte, Fla., where he will play for the Gulf Coast League Rays.
Seibert appeared in 56 games last season, hitting .337 with a team-high seven home runs and 38 runs batted in. He added six doubles, three triples, scored 28 times and walked 27 times, a mark which ranked second on the team. He tallied a team-best 18-game hitting streak during the season and finished with nine multiple-RBI games.
Seibert enjoyed a stellar NAIA Opening Round Tournament, where he hit .471 with two doubles, a triple, a homer and six RBIs en route to All-Tournament Team accolades. He capped the tournament by hitting for the cycle in the extra-inning, championship-game victory against Keiser to send the Warhawks to the NAIA World Series. He was also selected to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
As a junior, Seibert hit .305 with six doubles, three home runs and 18 runs batted in. He ranked second on the team with a .448 slugging percentage.
Prior to joining the Warhawks, Seibert played two seasons at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Miss. During his tenure, he had 19 doubles, three home runs and 41 runs batted in.
Seibert and the Warhawks finished the 2016 campaign 46-17 and made the program’s fourth appearance in the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series. In his two seasons, the Warhawks finished 86-35.
