United Way Holds ‘Day of Action’
Food insecurity is a common issue for seniors across the country. That’s why the group is looking to do something about it locally by making a change in the eating habits, and lives of senior citizens.
Hundreds came out to volunteer with United Way as they partnered with the Montgomery Area Council on Aging for the annual ‘Day of Action’. The group provided over a thousand frozen lunches for senior citizens. Nutritional needs for seniors is both a national, and statewide issue. According to United Way, one in five seniors in Alabama struggle with hunger, and 35 percent of people 65 or older live alone. The group says seniors are not only hungry for food, but also for fellowship.
