Biscuits crack Shuckers again in 9-2 win
BILOXI, Miss. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits won their fourth game in five days to spring into first place in the North Division after a 9-2 defeat of the Biloxi Shuckers on Monday night at MGM Park.
Yonny Chirinos (1-0) was making his first-ever Double-A start for the Butter and Blue, and the young right-hander was terrific hurling six inning of two run ball while fanning five in the winning effort. The Venezuelan’s lone blemish came in the sixth inning when he served up a two-run homer to Brewers number two prospect Brett Phillips.
But by that point, Chirinos was already up big, thanks to a five-run offensive explosion in the first inning by the Biscuits who batted around. Willy Adames got things started with an RBI-single after Braxton Lee walked and Mike Marjama doubled. Then Jake Bauers stepped up and crushed a three-run homer over the right field wall to make it 4-0 Biscuits before an out had been recorded. Kean Wong would add an RBI for the fifth and final run of the inning.
Three innings later, Tommy Coyle pounded his first home run of the season, and in the sixth, Adames brought home two more runs on another single. Cade Gotta would knock in his fourth run in the last two games in the seventh as the Biscuits blew the game wide open.
Ryne Stanek pitched three shutout innings of relief as the Biscuits closed it out in the ninth for the seven-run victory. Montgomery will have an off day on Tuesday, but will open up a five-game series with the Mobile BayBears at Riverwalk Stadium beginning Wednesday with Taylor Guerrieri on the mound (6-4) at 7:05 PM.
