The next phase of riverfront development is set to get underway in Selma in the coming weeks.

Mayor George Evans says during phase one of the project — an observation deck overlooking the Alabama River will be installed near the old Bridge Tenders House on Washington Street.

He says phase one also includes a walking pier along the banks of the river that connects to Riverfront Park.

“Its going to be a beautiful park,” said Evans. “Its going to be a River Walk like you have in San Antonio eventually. Something like that will be real eye-catching when you come to Selma for the view that its going to have of the river.”

Evans says the project should get underway within the next 60 days.
