Tomatoes, peaches, pickles, and local honey….
ALFA employees took advantage of “Farmers Market Day” at work.
“I got an 8 pound bag of peas and tomatoes. I’m not through shopping yet!” said employee Tonya Robison.

Agriculture is Alabama’s main industry, pumping more than 70 billion dollars into the economy each year.
And ALFA management says it’s a good for everyone involved.

“For the economy it’s a win-win, for the health of your family. You are putting back in the local community and the food is putting back good, local nutrition into your body. It’s a great way also to have that relationship with that farmer and get to meet that person one on one,” said ALFA Commodity Director Mac Higginbotham.

People like John Aplin of Aplin Farms in Geneva County.

“Our main thing we grow is tomatoes, peas and a few other things. But tomatoes have always been our specialty since 1952, we’ve been growing tomatoes,” said Aplin.

Aplin says he appreciates the support of ALFA.

“The support they give the farmers all through the state is just invaluable.”
And employees certainly appreciate them as well.

“We get to see what they grow and we get to see what our organization is doing and there is a lot of support with our farmers with the state and all. So it keeps us connected,” said Robison.
