Guerrieri dominates in Biscuits’ 5-4 win over Mobile

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits won their fifth game since the All-Star break and are now all alone in first place in the second half North Division after their 5-4 victory over the Mobile BayBears on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Taylor Guerrieri (7-4) took the mound for the Butter and Blue coming off of one of the worst starts of his career, but the right-hander was able to get back on track tossing another gem en route to his fifth-straight victory. The 23-year-old would go seven innings for just the second time this season, allowing just one run on an RBI-groundout in the second inning on six hits with five strikeouts.

Guerrieri also had a lead to work with after one, following a sacrifice fly by Willy Adames and Jake Bauers tomahawking his ninth home run of the season over the right field wall off Mobile starter Yoan Lopez (4-7) in the first. The score remained 2-1 until the sixth inning when Kean Wong stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer-his first long-ball in over two months-over the right field wall, too, after back-to-back two outs singles by Casey Gillaspie and Patrick Leonard.

Kyle Bird would enter the game for Guerrieri, and after pitching a scoreless eighth, got into trouble in the ninth surrendering a three-run bomb to Ildemaro Vargas that cut the lead to one at 5-4. Kyle Winkler was then summoned from the bullpen, and the right-hander delivered his fourth save since being re-signed by the Rays back in the middle of June.

The Biscuits will try to make it four in a row and six of seven in the second half on Thursday when Steve Ascher (3-1) does battle with John Omahen (6-5) at 7:05 PM.
