M-Braves best Biscuits 4-3 in bizarre baserunning miscue

PEARL, Miss. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits lost for the second time in three tries on Wednesday night, falling in bizarre fashion to the Mississippi Braves by a score of 4-3 at Trustmark Park.

Chih-Wei Hu (2-6) got the start for the Biscuits and the right-hander pitched well enough to keep the Biscuits in the game allowing just four runs with three strikeouts through 6.1innings. Hu would become the first Biscuit pitcher to surrender 11 hits in any one start, but the Biscuits still kept it close with the M-Braves thanks to an RBI by Jake DePew, and a bad pickoff move that brought Kean Wong home from third.

But the Biscuits had a hard time cracking Mississippi starter Rob Whalen (7-5), who rung up nine in six innings allowing just one run on four hits. The M-Braves opened the scoring off Hu in the first with an RBI-single from Carlos Franco and would add a few more on a Willian Astudillo sacrifice fly and a Jacob Schrader solo homer.

In the ninth, with the Biscuits down by two, Cade Gotta would slam a two-out double with nobody on base before DePew came through with a clutch RBI-single to cut the deficit to one. Braxton Lee would then walk, which brought Mike Marjama to the plate and the DH delivered a single into center field. DePew was then held up at third, but Lee didn’t see it, and ran to third putting two Biscuits at the same base. DePew was then forced to come home and he was tagged out in a rundown for the final out of the game.

The Biscuits will try to get back on track on Thursday when Chris Kirsch (4-3) takes on Lucas Sims (0-2) at 7:00 PM.
