Hornets’ AD Hines set to address Emerging Athletic Director Academy
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – Alabama State University Director of Athletics Melvin Hines is slated to be one of the guest instructors at the Fourth Annual Emerging Athletic Director Academy.
The Academy will be hosted on the campus of Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga., for the second consecutive year. The dates of the Academy are July 10-12.
Emerging Administrators Academy was developed to fill a gap in the professional development lifecycle of Intercollegiate Athletic Administrators. Emerging AD will provide hands-on training by athletic directors whose experience and insight working in the industry will help in the development and training of collegiate athletic administrators to advance their careers.
This year’s Emerging AD target audience is slated specifically for Division I Assistant Directors to Assistant Athletic Directors, Divisions II, III and NAIA Directors to Associate Athletic Directors and a limited number of graduate students and non-traditional background candidates.
“The Academy really focuses on the preparation for the up and coming collegiate administrators,” Hines said. “This is a talking classroom setting where we help the attendees hone in on the skills needed to become an athletic administrator.”
The Academy will have returning as instructors and Board of Advisors Dr. Derrick Gragg, Vice-President and Director of Athletics, The University of Tulsa; Tim Duncan, Emerging AD Founder and Director of Athletics, Clayton State University; Bill Lansden, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and Executive Director of the Hokie Club, Virginia Tech University and Steve Stroud, Senior Associate Director of Athletics/External Affairs, Troy University. Jody Sykes, Senior Associate Athletic Director & Chief Compliance Officer, University of Oregon and Dena Freeman-Patton, Deputy Athletics Director at California State University-Bakersfield are also members of the Board of Advisors.
Joining Hines as an instructor will be 10 additional instructors who will be covering a variety of topics. Those include Brian D. Stanchak, President of The BDS Agency, Harry Stinson III, Associate Athletic Director/Compliance at Central State, Dr. Joe Luckey, Senior Associate Athletics Director/Student-Athlete Support Services at Cincinnati, Kim Record, Director of Athletics at UNC Greensboro, Kiki Baker Barnes, Director of Athletics at Dillard University, Kenneth Siegfried, Director of Athletics at Cal State Bakersfield, Lisa Sweany, Director of Athletics at Armstrong State, Mark Alnutt, Deputy Director of Athletics at Memphis, Tamica Smith Jones, Director of Athletics at UC Riverside and Stan Johnson, Executive Director for Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).
