Union Springs Man Murdered After Fight Over Gambling, Suspect In Custody

Johnny Womack Jr. is currently in custody for the shooting.

One man is dead and another in custody after an early morning shooting in Union Springs.

Police say Johnny Womack Jr. is in custody for a shooting on Peachburg Road near highway 82.

Officers arrived to the scene around 3 a.m. to find Mario Martin shot in his right rib cage.

He was taken to the Bullock County hospital where he later died.

Womack turned himself in to the union springs police department.

“The information that we’ve gotten so far is they were involved in some type of gambling game and there was altercation stemming from there,” said Danny Johnson, Union Springs Police Chief.

Womack is currently Macon County jail.
