Teen was 1st to Die this year in Montgomery

Fifty-Five Alabamians have died in fires so far in 2016, continuing the state’s reputation as one of the worst in the nation.

The latest death came in Montgomery County when a 17-year-old boy was critically injured last week. He died Tuesday as a result of his injuries at a Birmingham hospital.

The fire happened in a house in the 36-hundred block of Rita Lane last Wednesday morning. Authorities say five other people were in the house at the time, including two younger children. They all got out safely.

Three Elmore County residents have died so far this year.

The National Fire Protection Association, an insurance group, ranks Alabama fourth in the nation.
