Traffic Alert: Dynamic Message Sign Being Installed on I-85 Causes Lane Closures

road-work1.jpgMontgomery- Overhead sign structures and Dynamic Message Signs, similar to the ones on Interstate 65 outside of Montgomery, will be installed this evening on I-85 southbound and northbound lanes near Jackson Hospital.

In preparation for installation single lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. with double lane closures at approximately 10 p.m.

Beginning roughly at 12 a.m. all lanes, north and southbound, will be closed for 15 minutes to set the overhead sign structure for the Dynamic Message Signs.

Once traffic has been cleared southbound lanes will be closed again for approximately 15 minutes to place the Dynamic Message Sign.

Once the southbound sign is in place equipment will be moved and the northbound lanes will be closed to place the other Dynamic Message Sign.

All lanes closures will be complete by 5 a.m.

The signs will begin broadcasting messages by this fall, once the lights and technology have been connected and tested.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
