Prayer Vigil in Troy Calls for Peace and Unity
Over one-hundred people packed into the Troy Recreation Center Tuesday night for a prayer vigil. The vigil comes after multiple violent events across the country in recent weeks.
Pastor Anthony Eskew helped organize the event and says that prayer is so important in times like these.
“We as a nation need to get back to the roots, that, ‘In God We Trust’, and the only way we’re going to answers to problems that are arising,” he shared, “that we may not have all of the answers, we have to go back to Christ and building relationships.”
Local law enforcement leaders were also present at the vigil. Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas says the past few weeks have been tough for law enforcement.
“Law enforcement has always needed prayers, you know it’s a tough job,” he explained, “you know we deal with the negatives of society when we get the call.”
Since officers have been targeted in recent shootings Sheriff Thomas says that deputies are not responding to calls alone. Instead they are responding in groups of two or more.
