Pike Road Schools a Top 50 Finalist to Win $10 Million Grant

Pike Road SchoolPike Road School System has been selected as one of 50 finalists vying for the opportunity to win the $10M XQ Super School Grant. Thousands of schools across the country submitted entries in what has become the largest open call in history to rethink high school.

The XQ Super School project is dedicated to helping schools across America bring an innovative approach to learning. Pike Road Schools (PRS) is ahead of the game and already implementing many of the unique ideas that are on the horizon for public education.

PRS middle school learners worked alongside faculty and staff to design a high school and create other materials needed to apply for this grant. Their hard work landed them a spot amongst the semi-finalists, which were selected in June of this year. PRS leaders and learners then had the opportunity to participate in a focus group and interview process with the XQ team. This was a dream come true for school superintendent, Dr. Suzanne Freeman.

“I’ve never been more proud to be a part of a team! Our students and teachers were incredible. It is humbling to know that our approach to education in Pike Road, Alabama is in line with what the XQ team is doing to reimagine the possibilities for children across the country.”

“The Town of Pike Road congratulates Pike Road School System on making the cut for the top 50 schools that applied for this grant,” said Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone. “It is exciting to know that the work of the teachers and students at PRS is being recognized by outstanding leaders on the XQ board.”

The winning teams will be notified on August 4. PRS students return to school August 10.

XQ will make a public announcement of the winners the week of September 12.
