Justin Williams’ 5 RBI, Guerrieri’s 9th straight win seals 10-5 Biscuits victory
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – The Biscuits brought their bats to the ballpark on Tuesday night, topping the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in game one of their five-game series, 10-5, at Riverwalk Stadium.
Taylor Guerrieri (11-4) was on the hill for the Butter and Blue and delivered another stellar performance tossing six innings of one-run ball on his way to his ninth-straight victory. The Augusta, Georgia native’s run was unearned as he fanned five on the way to his Southern League-leading 11th victory. The 23-year-old right-hander has not lost since May 28 against Jackson.
The Biscuits got things started in the first inning with an RBI-groundout by Willy Adames before Justin Williams launched his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make it 3-0 Biscuits in the second. Williams was at it again in the fourth with an RBI-single, and would drive in two more in the seventh with another single, for his most impressive night as a Biscuit in just seven days.
Adames would also crush his ninth home run of the season, another two-run bomb, in the fifth. The long-ball was the 20-year-old’s first since June 9 against Biloxi. The Blue Wahoos would fight back with four runs in the eighth off Mark Sappington and Jared Mortensen, before loading the bases with one out in the ninth to make things interesting. But Jeff Ames was summoned from the bullpen to put out the fire, as the Wahoos could not bring anyone else home in the defeat.
The Biscuits have now won four in a row for the fourth time this season, and will try to make it five for the first time on Wednesday night when Chih-Wei Hu (3-6) squares off against Rookie Davis (8-3) at 7:05 PM.
