Goat Contest Boosting Downtown Tourism

"Nanny" the Goat has been making her way around the city for the month of July. It's all a part of a contest that could help you as well as the city.

Nanny the Goat is getting quite a lot of attention around downtown Montgomery.

“We’ve observed just seeing people as they walk by and see Nanny. They see her, they kind of laugh and they say this is neat I wonder what that is about,” said Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director Meg Lewis.
And Nanny’s getting some funny reactions too.

“I came to work saying, ‘am I getting punked? Is Dreamland getting punked? There is really a goat out here? Who took the time to do this?'” said Dreamland employee Zachary Morrissey.

Lewis says it was summer interns that came up with the idea.

“It’s really a product of some really great, positive, young minds that are dedicated to making Montgomery great,” said Lewis.

It’s all a part of a contest. All you have to do is post your selfie with Nanny on Facebook or Instagram with “#WheresNannyMGM.”
And the pictures have been rolling in all month from landmarks around town.

“We’ve seen a lot of pictures posted by both locals and visitors that have come in. Our attractions and sites have been very involved. They have helped to promote it themselves so their viewers whether they are local or outside are seeing it and participating as well. We know that this message of fun and excitement about Montgomery is really hitting home.”

And for people like Zachary Morrissey… He’s all for bringing a little more fun to the city.
“It shows the lighter side. It’s more than work, work, work. More of the ‘hey, let’s get out here and do more’ type of thing. Different stuff out here. It’s pretty fun.”

You can also win prizes for your posts with Nanny, including restaurant gift cards and Biscuits game tickets.

The contest ends Saturday. Nanny will change locations each day. Friday she will be at the Capitol and Saturday at The Shoppes at Eastchase.
