Romano, Blue Wahoos blank Biscuits 4-0
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – Sal Romano (4-10) took a perfect game into the seventh inning on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium, and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos shut out the Biscuits 4-0 in game four of a five-game series.
Romano, who was just 3-10 coming into Friday night’s game, was outstanding against Montgomery, setting down the first 20 Biscuits batters of the night before a two-strike, two-out pitch pegged Willy Adames in the back to give the Biscuits their first base runner in the seventh. Jake Bauers would spoil the no-hitter in the subsequent at-bat with a single into right field.
But the game remained tied until the eighth, thanks to another stellar performance by Biscuits left-hander Chris Kirsch who tossed six shutout innings in a no decision. Kirsch has now tied his teammate Chih-Wei Hu for the longest shutout streak of the season at 15 innings.
But the Blue Wahoos would finally get on the board against Jeff Ames with two outs in the eighth thanks to an RBI-double by shortstop Zach Vincej. A Willy Adames throwing error in the next at-bat would bring Vincej home from second, and a two-run home run by Alex Blandino in the ninth put the game out of reach, as the Biscuits finished the night with just two hits.
The Biscuits will try to win the series in the rubber match on Saturday night with Chase Whitley taking on Barrett Astin in the finale at 6:35 PM.
